Week 18 - 4 Months Old

Oh Henry- we say that a lot around this house. I have never tried an Oh Henry candy bar but we might have to give them a try. We love our little Henry so much and enjoy watching him grow. Henry turned 4 months old on March 1st and we spent most of the day shopping and then watching the snow fall in the evening.

Your well-check in on the 6th but your unofficial weight is 15.5 lbs. You wear 6-month size clothes and still have some room to grow.

At 4 months you have developed a few new tricks and more personality. You started laughing a cute belly laugh when tickled. At first it was just when you were sleeping but now you laugh when we tickle your back and when Daddy play Peek-a-boo with you. With the laughter I think you discovered your voice. You used to just make throaty gurgle cooing sounds but now you sing and squeal! You do your best vocals in the morning and whenever you are in a room alone.

You are still a champion nurser and pretty much attached to mommy. You watch mom wherever she goes and smile when she walks in the room. You also love when Daddy comes home and playing with him.

You are a good and bad sleeper. Sometimes you sleep for 5 hrs followed by 3 hrs and other times you are up every 3 hrs at night. Mommy doesn't know how to help you sleep longer- Daddy thinks you might just need to cry a little more (or at all). You always eat and go back to sleep and then wake up happy in the morning. You go to bed between 8 and 9 PM and wake-up between 6:30 and 7:30 AM. You suck on your paci for about 10 minutes and then spit it out when you go to sleep for the night.

You nap for 45 minutes if you are not being held and for 2 to 3 hours if I hold you. So you normally nap alone for 45 minutes and then I hold you so you sleep longer. In between naps you are up for 1-2 hours, normally 1.5 hrs. You suck on your paci for a majority of your nap time. Daddy has magic and you sleep all by yourself for 3 hours whenever he is in charge. I'm normally not home when this happens so we will have to take Daddy's word.

You LOVE chewing on your fist and have even started knocking your paci out to suck on your fist. You also like to suck on anything including toys, hands, mom's arm, blankets, your own arm, etc. You also drool a lot and continue to blow bubbles. You love to hold things and often look like you are holding on for dear life, complete with white knuckles.

You no longer sleep whenever you are in the car which is okay. I think you just realized there is so much to see! You play with the link toys and watch yourself in the mirror and try to do the sun stare. We went to the last Weber home game to watch Darrin play and see Great Grandma Hansen and you stayed awake until we pulled into the parking lot, same with when we drove home.

You also started doing crunches, I think you want to have a six-pack instead of your cute baby tummy! Actually you just really like sitting up and looking around. So anytime you are laying down you try to lift your head and sit up. You also like standing up on your feet. You started rolling from your back to your side but haven't figured out the full roll just yet.

You have started losing your long baby hairs and rubbing off whatever hair you have in the back. You also started really holding onto things, such as mommy's hair, and trying to get them in your mouth. You really are looking like a baby not a newborn. I'm so happy you are growing and learning. We went to Story Time at the Library and you watched the crazy librarian as she sang and wore silly hats and read books to the group. When it was over you promptly fell asleep.

Henry, mom and dad love you so much. We always say what a joy you are and how happy we are to have you. I can't wait to see what you learn next month!

  1. oh my goodness, he is getting so big and is so handsome! he has the most perfect round head i've ever seen, and i love the little hair on top! he looks so happy, i need to see him soon! ps, at 4 months ellis stopped sleeping through the night and sort of went crazy in that area- you can look up the 4 month sleep regression, it's crappy, but it won't last, and maybe he'll sleep longer when it's over! miss you guys!
