Week 31 - Seven Month Stats

7 Months Old!

Henry you are seven months old! The last month has been HUGE for you in the world of change and development. I didn't realize this was such a big month for you and it has been busy for mom.

You learned to sleep without being swaddled this month. After talking to the pediatrician and realizing how hot it is in our house, we decided to go without swaddling cold turkey. Before when you weren't swaddled you would spend the night like this:
Lucky for us you got over your fascination with night feet sucking. In hindsight I think you were ready to be not swaddled for a while, I just didn't realize it.

In other sleeping news, we decided to let you learn how to fall asleep without endless rocking and singing from mom. This was a gradual effort that was HARD for mom. Now your bedtime routine is bath, lotion, pjs, nursing, story, prayer, then two songs while being rocked, then finally put in crib with paci. At first you cried of course! But we went in to rock you again after 30 minutes and kept up the routine until you fell asleep. The first night was 1.5 hours, the next was an hour, and then only 15 minutes. You are a much happier boy when you wake up. I wish we would have done this sooner.

You are become a better napper. You are napping in your crib, given the same singing/rocking routine described above. You are napping for about 1-1.5 hours which is a HUGE improvement as well. With longer naps and better nighttime sleep you are staying awake for 2-3 hours rather than 1-1.5 hours.

This month you decided baby food wasn't so bad. You seem to like sweet potatoes and green beans the most. Still haven't taken a bottle and are not interested in drinking from your sippy cup (you just like to bang it against things) You have also tried the little fruit puffs and yogurt puffs and are getting better at putting them in your mouth. We are working on consistently eating a serving of baby food at least once a day but we let you be the boss (Henry does mean Home Ruler). You are still a champion nurser, just a little more distracted and not in love with one side.

You are still wearing size 3 diapers and 6-9 month clothes. You have been wearing more shirts and less onesies lately, you look so big!

This month you have become fearless in terms of grabbing things. You reach for whatever you want, even if that means you face plant (video to come). You are still an amazing sitter and are working on the rolling/scooting aspect of life. I don't mind that you stay in the same place because I know mobility is coming.

If you don't get what you want, you have learned to vocally protest. You sure have a cute voice and I know I haven't guessed right until you smile at me. I only wish that you didn't vocalize your dislike for one of the sides your nurse on, EVERY TIME.

You figured out the joy of Peek-a-Boo this month. Before a burp cloth would just sit on your head endlessly but now you know to rip it off and smile. You also love to play with Daddy. Dad comes home and tickles, wrestles, and tosses you in the air and you just laugh and smile the whole time.

This month you decided it was most fun to give mom high-5s while nursing or kick your leg against mom's foot. You continue to give high-5s and are getting close to clapping. Repetitive /tapping hitting is what you are really into right now.

Somehow you learned to shake your head back and forth like saying "no." I don't know who taught you this but it sure is cute. I don't think you shake your head to protest anything, more just to show off your newest trick. We are working on nodding to say "yes."

You LOVE sitting up and do not love lying down. You want to see the world and try to grab at things, not lie down like a baby. Oh and you hold your toes a lot while sitting up.

You have become quite the sneezer and sneeze a couple times a day. It is really cute.

I love this picture. You have LONG eyelashes and the cutest lips.

You are really into singing and squealing lately. You sing in the car if the radio is on or when mom is talking on the phone. You talk a LOT to daddy when he comes home. You squeal when you are playing, sometimes REALLY loud.

When you are excited you kick your feet and pump your arms. It is really cute. You also started pinching me with your toes, not as cute.

You first tooth continues to come through and it looks like another might be quickly following along

Your hands went from feeling like baby hands to kid hands this month. You learned how to really grab things you want and with that your hands feel more solid. Before your hands were soft and clumsy, now they are strong and purposeful. I remember the first time you just grabbed my finger and wanted to put it in your mouth, I was surprised that this little change happened so fast. I can't wait to see what you make with your hands throughout your life.

On of your newest tricks is grabbing your paci and putting it in your mouth all by yourself. Sometimes we give you your paci and you take it out just to put it in again. You have learned to grab it even when it falls out of your mouth in your sleep and lands by your ear. So much independence so early!

Mom is still your favorite place to snuggle and cuddle. We've spent many a night sleeping on the couch in this position when you are having a yucky tummy or that tooth is getting you down.

Note the cutest chubby arms I have ever seen.

See what I mean by the grabbing?

People always comment on your blue blue eyes. They really are gorgeous!
