Week 35 - 8 Months old!

My sweet Henry you are 8 months old and we are headed out of town on vacation. I did not bring your Bruce Moose so I don't have a picture on your 8 Month birthday but there are many pictures of you from the day after.

At eight months old your nighttime sleep is not what I hoped it would be. There are some nights you get up after 6-8 hours and then sleep for 4-6 more hours. Other nights you get up every 3 hours. I'm trying feeding you more during the day, letting you cry a little longer, and having a better schedule to see if that will help. You do still enjoy being rocked for a little bit but are quickly wanting to just lay down all by yourself to fall asleep. I just want you to get the sleep you need and develop good sleep habits. Hopefully after all our vacations in July we can get you to be a wonderful sleeper. Your new found love of rolling has interrupted your sleep  more often than I want to admit because you don't love being on your tummy.

Although your nighttime sleep isn't ideal, you have become a wonderful napper. You take three naps that last about 1 hr -1.5 hrs. On occasion you take a LONG afternoon nap, 2-3 hrs, and on those days you only take 2 naps. You fall asleep quickly after we go in your room and close the curtains and are a great sleeping boy. Having on a fan has helped a great deal.

You are still a champion nurser in my book. You nurse on demand which is about 4-7 times a day and still prefer the left to the right. You have started to pop on and off more than I like because the world around you is so exciting. I started using my nursing cover more to minimize your distractions. I think you get a great deal of comfort from nursing in addition to food. I'm happy we have made it this far and hope to keep at it. We are working on using a sippy cup since you seem to hate bottles.

The world of food has been opened to you more this month. You are getting really good at the pincer grab and love feeding yourself. If you had a choice you would feed yourself every meal, which is something we hope to do more and more of in the future months. You love sweet potatoes and pears the most. I've started making your baby food, it is really easy, but we are not against buying it either. You love the little yogurt melts and also flavored puffs. You gagged on Cherrios so we haven't tried those again. Gagging is one thing you are really good at and explains why I've been slow at introducing more finger foods for you. I need a refresher on baby heimlich.

You are a really happy baby boy. You smile a lot and giggle and squeal. You love to sing when music is playing. You are talking more and more all the time in a very cute happy voice. You tolerate the car well and fall asleep on long rides. Everyone comments on your bright happy face, especially your smile and blue eyes. Your scrunchy nose smile is also a favorite of mine.

You are a mama's boy which I love and hope lasts. You love to cuddle and snuggle me. Your dad loves any cuddles he gets from you but you reserve the best cuddles for mom. On the other hand you give dad the best laughs and happiest face when you see him. You do not like the sight of me walking away from you, ever. You love me walking towards you have started reaching for me whenever I am near. I secretly LOVE that you reach for me.

You enjoy sitting up, rolling all over the house, trying to reach for things, standing on our legs so much you won't bend yours, rotating in circles on the floor on your tummy, chewing on anything you can get your mouth on, the exersaucer, stroller rides, reading books, being thrown in the air by daddy, tickled by daddy, etc.

You are wearing 6-9 month clothes but we should switch you soon as they are getting snug. You weigh about 18-19 lbs, You have one tooth that is about half way out and the little sign of the other bottom tooth but it hasn't broken through just yet. You have lots of hair that is turning blonde and coarse. You are a wonderful baby and I love you
