Week 40 - 9 Months OLD!

Dear Henry, For your 9 month birthday we decided to finally get you a high chair. You had been squishing your chubby thighs into the bumbo long enough! It would take 2 people to get you out of that thing! You love your high chair so far, thank you Ikea. You kick your feet, pound your fists on the table, lean back on the pillow, and love to feed yourself. It is so fun watching you grow!

You've taken to crawling really well over the last week. You've moved on from being an inch worm to the full out break dance worm. Every time you plop your belly on the ground you say "ugg" and it is really fun to watch. Trying to get a picture of you sitting still was a little more difficult this time around.
Here we go!

Prim example of you saying "ugg"

Reach and Pull is another specialty. You have become an excellent sitter as well and are almost able to gracefully go from sitting to crawling without crying or stretching your legs to the max. If you want something, you know how to get it. You also have learned to cry if you don't get the thing you want. Jordan and I learned this at Ikea when we took a toy away that you apparently wanted. You cried, and cried, and whined, and whined it was your first tantrum like behavior.

You and I do not know how to work through this whole night time sleeping thing. For months I have been hoping we will figure it out and for months we are still tired. We decided to go through round 2 (or is it 3?) of crying it out. You have done amazingly better this time and only cried for 15 minutes the first night and less than 5 every nap and night since. You still get up at night and will cry endlessly if I don't come comfort you a little. Hence we are still nighttime nursing. This is unnecessary I know but we are working on it. I think we would both appreciate a full 8+ hours of sleep. Your bedtime is between 7:30 and 8:30 depending on naps and how the day has gone.

Your naps are anywhere between 1.5 hours to 2.5 hours which is really nice for mom. I can actually get stuff done while you are sleeping like read a book or the laundry! Some days you do 3 naps and other days you do 2 naps. It all depends on who active you have been and how long the other nap(s) have been. I do appreciate that you have figured out how to take good naps. As long as you have your paci and our good night song you happily go to sleep.

Nursing is still going strong aside from your continued dislike of my right side. I thought it was related to your ear infection but seems to just be getting stronger. At night you take anything i give you but lately refuse the right side when half asleep as well. You nurse 4-5 times a day and have started to pop on and off much more than I appreciate. Nursing you is like holding a crocodile trying to get back in the water, by the time we are done we are both more than a little wet. Makes me wonder how much longer we will last at nursing since you are so much on the move.

Your little hands are growing and grabbing at everything. I've had more than a few hairs pulled out by you. You love to hold on to anything you can, especially while in the car seat and stroller.

Curiosity is your middle name these days. If you can reach it you will get it and put it in your mouth. I've found all sorts of little things on the floor. I've also started sweeping more and more which is a household chore I detest. You seem to be bored of your normal toys but will play for a while if I give you something new like a flashlight or tube of toothpaste.

Mom is still afraid of you choking and gagging on everything but we are working on feeding you from our plates in addition to letting you feed yourself. You do not really like being spoon feed anymore, only if you have had the opportunity to feed yourself for a little while before hand. You like potatoes, bananas (ate an entire one the day you turned 9 months), mango, green beans, peas, etc. We have really only found that you do not like avocados. I've become a pro at the fish hook so we let you try more things and just hook it out if you can't handle it.

Your blonde hair is growing thicker and longer all the time. It feels a lot like your daddy's hair. You have my cowlick in the front and dad's in the back with hair that wants to go a few directions. So you often have combed to the right hair. You also look good in a mow hawk!

The relationship you have with your daddy is growing and getting more fun. Whenever you see dad, even in the middle of the night you give him a mishevious smile and await the adventure you will have. Dad takes you on airplane rides, teaches you to walk, helps you crawl, tosses you in the air, tickles you with his scruffy face, and rasberries your belly. It is so fun to see you two laughing together. You even started to crawl at dad with a look of tickle on your face when dad was untieing his shoes, he was so surprised to see you behimd him crawling up his back.

You have started to want to snuggle sitting up with your head on my shoulder rather than cradled like a baby. You have even fallen asleep on daddy this way. One more sign that you are growing up.

Lots of people comment that you must be a singer when you grow up because you are always talking and singing. I love your little voice, even when you sound like a fire cracker.

Mommy is still your preferred person in the world by you had to learn to share a lot this month while mom watched your nieces. You learned to be more patient and to give cuddles to Grammy and Papa more. Daddy has put you to bed more and more often, while at SnowBird he put you on a pillow on his lap and you fell right asleep!

Another reason we got rid of the bumbo was because you kept trying to crawl out of it. You also try to get out of the exersaucer! You have started pulling yourself up on the crib mattress so we lowered it from the top straight to the bottom. You pull yourself up on the rungs of chairs and stools and just really want to move all over the place.

Look at your wonderful form! You also hide toys all over the place, like under the couch and my pillow. It is fun to watch you move all over and exploring. Toys are often scattered on the floor which is just one more sign that their is a well loved child at home with his mommy.

You are still wearing 9 month clothes with a couple 12 months sneaked in the bunch. It all depends on the brand. You are still in size 3 diapers. You rarely spit up which is wonderful, not that you ever really did.

You weight: 19.2 lbs (40%)
Height: 27.75 inches (25%)
Head: 17.6 inch (40%)

You have two teeth on the bottom and signs of the top two. You bit me once this month in the middle of the night and I was not happy about it.

At your appointment the doctor noticed your iron was low so he encouraged us both to eat more iron rich foods such as fortified oatmeal, leafy greens, and vitamins. Sounds delicious huh?

The doctor was not able to see into your ears because of all the wax build up you had, this has happened at every appointment. This time he was unable to scrape out enough was to see you ear so they had to use the elephant squirt bottle to clean out your ear. I was surprised at all the wax that came out, I wonder if you can hear much better now?!

You love to feed yourself and have mastered the pincer grab and also the fist grab. The doctor also asked if you spend time jabbering, which of course you do. You love to sing and talk to me all day I love it!

I love you Henry, your daddy loves you. This month you got to see all your grandparents and cousins and most of your aunts and uncles. You are a well loved boy.
