1/17/13 - Protest

After going through sleep-training (AKA torture, cry-it-out, wasn't-made-to-be-mean, etc.) again, you started taking 30 minute naps. When I go to get you, you promptly fall asleep on my shoulder, then promptly wake up as soon as I lay you back down. Somedays the battle is worth fighting, other days it is not. Today I let you sleep on me for as long as you wanted while I read a book. 2 hours later you woke up! Reminded me of when you were a baby. I enjoyed every minute, even the hot sweaty shirt and hair minutes. However, we need to figure out a solution to this problem. Any suggestions?

  1. I totally feel you. Ever since Nolan switched (against my desires) to a toddler bed, his nap ranges from 25 minutes to 40 minutes. Which is TOTALLY not enough sleep for him. Except on weekends when Daddy is home, he'll sleep two hours. Stinker.

I've tried putting him back in his bed, but he just gets so hysterical that I don't think he would ever be able to go back to sleep. I've tried just letting him cry back to sleep, and again, he just gets hysterical. He just wants to snuggle his mama.

  2. On second thought, he might be getting his molars. Has he already gotten those? Nolan was between 14 and 16 months when all four of his came in. And sleep was definitely bad during this time. Try giving him a little Tylenol about 30 minutes before naptime, or try the Hyland's teething pellets. Those usually seem to help Nolan calm down and sleep better.

  3. I love the Hyland's teething tablets! Henry already had all of his molars. I was reading your blog posts back when Addie was this age and you wrote some similiar experiences. I realize this is just a phase. Luckily the phase has ended miraculously on its own. Nolan is in a toddler bed?! CRAZY! Hope he is sleeping longer now! Henry always takes awesome naps when Daddy is home. I swear he wants to make me look like a liar.
